READERS WANTED

I’ve gotten used to the routine of looking for my reading glasses every time I pick up a newspaper now. I never wore glasses — always had great vision — until a couple of years ago.
These days, there are always a pair of “readers” lying around somewhere.

So this afternoon, when I rushed into the newsroom and realized I didn’t have my glasses I looked across the desk at my producer and asked if he had a pair; he smiled and said “well, no”.
I shouted over to a writer, then a couple of reporters, and then it hit me: I was the only person
in the long line of desks who NEEDED reading glasses. I don’t know how that happened — I consider myself in the same general age bracket as my co-workers. Hmmmm…….

I know one thing. Next time I need reading glasses, I’m going to wait until Mike gets in.
