“The Make-Up Room”

The Make-Up Room is where all anchors go before a newscast.  So there are usually at least 3 or us doing our hair and make-up at one time.  Usually it’s all girls.  And usually the talk isn’t about news.  It’s about men, dating, children, food….the stuff we’re all really interested in.   So starting today on my blog,  I’m going to share some of what we talk about behind the scenes.

With summer around the corner, the subject of the bikini wax came up.  Do you get one or not?  I offered that I have before, but I can’t see the point because you have to let the hair get long enough to wax again, which means, you’ll need to shave!  So why wax to begin with?

Before long the bikini wax conversation had turned into a debate about shaving, vs. waxing, vs. laser hair removal….and then, how much hair to remove.  Well, that depends on your generation.

Our 5:00 anchor Meredith Land says these days, to younger women like her little sister, good grooming means…a complete wax, if you get what I mean.

Now here’s my question:  What if you get complete laser removal and the current trend turns out to be a fad?  Are you stuck forever with something akin to a tatoo?

We’re asking some of the younger women about that and I’ll let you know their answers – or feel free to comment and let me know what you think!

Jane…TMI! Or not? I guess it’ll make watching you and Meredith more interesting. 😉

    Does Newy know about this?

Well…now that this post has been discussed on the Ticket, I’m sure there will be some, ahem, interesting comments.

That being said, Meredith’s little sister is right. It’s pretty much expected these days.

If the laser hair removal goes out of style, why not try a Merkin, Jane? That’s a fad that will never go out of style…

I imagine that a tatoo aka “tramp stamp” “target” etc… can certainly be regrettable and I look forward to that trend going away. Especially with women that have kids of there own. Current grooming trends were a long time coming and I don’t see it changing. And it’s not an “all ot nothing” proposition. There are many imaginative ways this presents itself. And as for someone who has been lasered, they can always wear a merkin. Thanks Jane for being so candid. We love you.

Jane, I have to say that I suddenly became VERY interested in your conversation on waxing. If you know what I mean….VERY VERY interested.

My wife is lasered from her eyes to her toes. No hair, anywhere! Life is good. Sex is better and the wife never complains about shaving.

    Interesting wax debate.

  10. 12 Robert Sturminator May 14, 2008 at 2:08 pm

Can men get this done too? I’m interested.

Wow, Jane. I suddenly see you in a different light. Thanks 1310 for bringing this to my attention.

Why does everything have to be a joke?

Between Tammy’s bursting clothes in the morning and me thinking about bikini waxes at night…..I am locked into NBC 5 all day long. Can you make that into a sweeps promo?

  14. 16 greggo May 14, 2008 at 2:26 pm

This is an interesting debate but it gives me a headache, I think I am going to go take some drugs and take the rest of the day or year off from work

Thanks for opening this discussion Jane. I’ve often wondered about waxing myself… but, being a guy and all, have never gone through with it like that guy on 40 year old virgin… but I do wonder why you have to “let it grow out” before you wax? Doesn’t waxing work on really really short hair as well?

Do they have waxing “stencils” Jane? (perhaps Meredith could ask her sister?) It would make sense because then you’d not only be safe for the bikini, you could express yourself with a neat design! That would be a nice change from the old ‘landing strip’, ‘hitler moustache’, ‘arrow’, etc.

Thanks again for opening the discussion Jane!

I better Tammy Dombeck really know what the definitive answer is for this. On the other hand I agree with Norm’s HipPillow and the merkin is the only way to go, you can’t go wrong. Just see what Matthew McConuaghey has to say about this. McConuaghey is the end all test for what is choice. XOXOX

I am from Highland Park and went to TCU and have been surrounded by hot women all my life and let me tell you that today’s woman goes smooth more often than not. I saw a special about this on Discovery Health on my HDTV last week.

    I don’t know what to say, really…

I agree with Mr. Ticket, we need pictures, as you know guys are very visual.

  21. 23 Married to a Hairy Monkey May 14, 2008 at 3:03 pm

I’m going to have to get my wife in on this debate. She seems to be old fashioned.

  22. 24 Heywood HaBlome May 14, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Jane, when is the NBC 5 ladies of news bikini calendar coming out?

  23. 25 A. Nus May 14, 2008 at 4:07 pm

There was an earlier blog post about celebrating women. THIS is what I call celebrating women. Thanks!
